With more than 230 colleagues from over 30 countries the IEEE-ICIT 2010 has concluded sucessfully. The organizing committee hopes you had a safe and pleasant return trip back to home, and please remember you will be always welcome in Chile!
We have uploaded several pictures taken during the conference into the picture gallery. Please feel free to view, download, share and print the pictures you like.
More than one hundred colleagues attended today's opening tutorials and workshops in the UTFSM. Tomorrow, March the 15th, the activities will continue as planned in the Enjoy Conference Center in Viña del Mar.
Also, we have compiled a picture gallery of the events in the conference, this will be updated daily.
Due to some comprehensible concern of some attendants, we would like to inform that the aftershocks experienced on March 11 in the central-south region of Chile are normal and very mild compared to the quake of February 27th. They do not represent a threat to safety and normal operation of the country. We are working normally at the University, the conference Venue, the airport, the hotels and the whole city have no impact. The conference remains scheduled as planned.

The IEEE-ICIT 2010 Organizing Committee would like to inform:
Valparaiso: The cities of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar are operating normally. The hotels, the conference venue and the University are 100% operative.
Roads connecting Santiago to Valparaiso/Viña del Mar: Road conditions and traffic flow are all normal.
Santiago International Airport: All companies are resuming their frequencies to Chile. The chilean aeronautical authority can now receive all passengers coming from international flights.
On Saturday and Sunday, an IEEE-ICIT 2010 team using blue T-shirts will be waiting for the attendees and coordinating their transport to Viña del Mar. We will publish the final schedule of the buses on Wednesday.

The IEEE-ICIT 2010 Organizing Committee would like to inform:
General Situation: It is indeed serious in the area around Concepción (the second largest city after Santiago), but Valparaiso and Viña del Mar are very calm. These cities have water, electricity, phone and Internet.
The City of Valparaiso: There is minor damage in some areas of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Stores and supermarkets have been open since the day after the earthquake. All hotels in Viña del Mar are working normally.
Roads connecting Santiago to Valparaiso/Viña del Mar: Road conditions and traffic flow are all normal.
Santiago International Airport: The airport suffered damages in the terminal, but the landing strips are in good condition. The first international flights arrived on Sunday afternoon. For now, passengers are being processed (customs and immigration) using temporary facilities at the airport. Yesterday, 60% percent of flights had resumed.

We would like to thank you all again for your kind messages of support.
The images from news around the world are terrible, but they are from the areas around the city of Concepción, which is located more than 500 km away from Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. These cities have not been seriously affected by the earthquake, and the images do not reflect the current conditions in this part of the country.
The Enjoy Convention Center and the Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria are fully operative, as well as the San Martin Hotel.
The Airport was closed over the weekend, but now it has begun to receive international arrivals. According to the authorities, international arrivals will be fully operational on Friday, March 5th.
During the conference, we can assure normal operation of hotel, dining, and ground transportation services. We hope to maintain high levels of safety and comfort for the conference attendees.
Preparations for ICIT 2010 are proceeding as planned.

We would like thank the kind messages from the attendees.
We would also like to inform you that Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria does not have any problems. Viña del Mar and Enjoy Convention Center have no major problems.
However Santiago International Airport is close and we do not have information about when it will be opened again.
We keep this webpage updated with any new information.
